The browning treatment consisted of humin feed addition to a final concentration of 2 mg/L to half of the mesocosms. We prepared the stock solutions several days in advanced since it is hard to dissolve. The iron treatment consisted of addition of the siderophore desferrioxamine B to half of the mesocosms.
